What Are The Job Duties Of A Tree Arborist?

A tree arborist is an individual who specializes in the care and maintenance of trees. They are responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing tree diseases, as well as pruning, trimming, and removing trees as needed. These professionals play an important role in the management of forests, parks, and residential landscapes.

Diagnosing and Treating Disease

Tree arborists are responsible for identifying and diagnosing any issues that may be affecting a tree's health. This can include the presence of pests, diseases, or environmental stressors. They are also responsible for recommending and administering treatments, such as fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides, to help the tree regain its health.

Pruning and Trimming

They are responsible for pruning and trimming trees as needed, either as part of a preventative maintenance plan or to address a specific issue. Pruning involves cutting away dead or diseased branches, while trimming is the process of removing excess growth. Both processes help to improve the overall health of the tree and enhance its appearance.

Removing Trees

When a tree is beyond saving, tree arborists may be called upon to remove it. This is a dangerous job, as it involves the use of heavy machinery and the risk of injury. Arborists must take the necessary safety precautions to ensure that the tree is removed safely and without damage to nearby structures or people.

Maintenance and Monitoring

They are responsible for monitoring the health of trees on a regular basis. They may perform inspections to check for signs of disease or stress, as well as soil tests to determine the nutrient levels in the soil. They may also recommend treatments such as fertilization and pest control to help improve the tree's health.
