How To Try Linux Without Installing It

Are you tired of Windows 10? Have you ever thought about switching to Linux? Well, in this guide I am going to show you how to try Linux without installing it. So did you know that you can try Linux on your computer without actually installing it on your hard drive? To make this possible, you have to download Rufus and install it on your computer. After that, you have to check if your computer meets the minimum requirements to install Linux. Most of these Linux distributions have their requirements listed on their official websites. Now let’s get to the most important part: installing Ubuntu.

There are two ways to install Linux. The first option is dual booting. When you dual boot your computer, it allows you to boot it from both Windows and Linux. The second option is clean installation. There is also another way that lets you install Linux without formatting your computer. To do that, you have to install and test Ubuntu in a virtual machine directly in Windows. A virtual machine will allow you to run Linux on top of Windows. To do this, follow this tutorial:How To Install Fedora On VirtualBox.

Before continuing, I strongly recommend that you make a full backup of your system. It is very important to make a backup of your data; if you want, you can even make a disk clone for more security. A disk clone is a full backup of a disk and its partitions. When you create a disk clone, your disk will get completely cloned and saved in the form of an image that is very easy to restore.

Here are the things you’ll need:

  • A USB flash drive
  • Ubuntu ISO
  • Rufus Software

Grab all these things now and let’s get started. The steps given below are applicable to any Linux distribution.

  1. LaunchRufus.
  2. Load the Ubuntu ISO file into Rufus.
  3. Click on the “Start” button to start creating the bootable USB drive.
  4. Wait until the process is finished before removing the drive.
  5. Congratulations! Now you have successfully created a bootable Linux USB drive.

After completed, all you have to do is start your PC from the USB flash drive to install the Linux distribution or to use the Linux distribution in the “Live” mode! To try Linux, just boot your computer from the USB drive and just say you want to try Linux without installing. Then it will let you use it in a virtual environment.
